Sorry 'bout..

..not posting recently. We have just been darn busy and I may have been a bit lazy. Smiley is home with us now. He was in very poor condition when we picked him up, seems he had a case of flu like symptoms some weeks before we picked him up. He had not received the care that Pat would have given him and he did not recover well. He is now coming around well, gaining weight and obviously feeling a lot better. The unpacked boxes in the garage have become few. Things don’t seem so hopeless now. We purchased a storage/garden building and it has been delivered. The John Deere zero turn mower has a place now. I am sure glad we have that mower, I have about a acre of mowing to do and it takes the better part of two hours to mow with a 48” mower. I will move the garden tools in the garage to the shed and I will have lots of room in the garage for me and my stuff. Pat has a new stove now. It has two ovens, one above the other. Pretty nice! Our refrigerator is on back order with no estimated delivery date. We can wait. Today was my birthday and Pat baked me a German Chocolate cake. That was the sum of my celebration. I had a call from my Aunt Maxine, that was so neat.  She is a special person in my life.  I heard from my son Brian and my sister Sandy but have yet to hear from Beth or Greg. Maybe later, eh? Bruce

Pat made..

me do this.

We still have..

...some full boxes in the Garage but the car will fit.  The RV is home now and Smiley is too.  Things are seeming to settle down now and we can relax some.

The community of New Market had a "Fish Fry" yesterday and it was well attended by Howards, Lambs and Apples.  Betty and Becky Willis were there too. Everyone kinda dropped by our place for a bit.  We had good visits.  The Fish Fry was a money raising event for the Volunteer Fire department.  It was well attended.

The folks here seem to have a deep sense of community.  Kinda nice.

Pat has returned from Church and I promised that I would prepare waffles for our brunch.  This is an indicator that we are getting settled in.  The sunday routine in Crosby was waffles after church.  I'm off to the kitchen to prepare waffles for my bride.

We are...

...staying with Vernie and Glenda Nygaard. Saturday night we will move to the motel so we can leave Monday AM early about 5 AM. This way we'll disturb no one.
We are hoping the trip home will be smooth and uneventful. Dinner tonight with our hosts.
Sunday has been set aside for Joyce, Brian, Naomi and the kids after Pat returns from church.
That's all for now;
Bruce

OK..

...we made it thru Minneapolis. It was at 5 pm and the traffic was not near that of Chicago at 9:30 am. I cannot believe folks will pay for park & slow on the tollway! It was nearly as bad as LA and we didn't have to pay. We will spend the night in St Cloud, MN and get going really early in the morning. We will have nearly 600 miles to go.
Later,
Bruce

Rockford, IL...

.., heading North. Slowed by construction but limited traffic. We will be in Wisconsin soon. I94/90 will be our roads til Jamestown, ND.

I do not...

...know why people pay for slow and go on these Tollways!!!
NEVER AGAIN!!
There is no apparent advantage to go this way. There are not enough sedatives.

Well..

..it’s Labor Day and we are laboring! Pat is unboxing stuff and I am getting the truck ready for the trip, mowing the front yard, cutting up cardboard boxes and putting them in the large packing boxes. I’ll take the boxes of boxes to the recycling place in Crawfordsville.

We had a very nice time at the Walls family reunion yesterday afternoon. Lots of new folks to meet, lots of food and fun stuff too. Joan Walls is Pat’s first cousin. Jerry is her husband.

I have eaten lunch and now must return to my chores.

We will..

…go get Smiley and bring him home. It is starting to get cold in Crosby and an early winter is a possibility we wish to avoid. We will be leaving on Wednesday (7) early and be in Crosby Thursday (8) evening. Our return trip will be at a slower pace depending how Smiley tolerates travel. We plan on leaving on Monday (12). Our 1st night will be spent with friends, Dale and Ona, near Minneapolis (west side) who have a horse facility. That will be the halfway mark, 600 miles. The progress of the next 600 miles depends on Smiley. He will let us know how he is doing and we will adjust progress as needed.
Canuck is going to stay at the kennels and Jumoke will stay with Pat’s cousin, Elinor in Crawfordsville.
We are still unpacking boxes.
The Fifth Wheel RV has been moved home. All our toys are now with is except the horse and he will be very soon.

Time to...

..go fetch our horse before winter sets in North Dakota. We just heard from Kay Garbel (a friend in Crosby) that it was 59 degrees. It is 97 degrees here. We are hoping to leave next Thursday early and make a run to Crosby to get there by Friday afternoon sometime. That is a 1200 mile drive. We will stop halfway (Minneapolis+-) for the night and push on early.
The trip back will be a little different with the horse trailer and horse. It may take 3-4 days depending how well the horse is traveling. It will depend on how Smiley tolerates the move…he is 27 years old.
Things are coming together pretty well. We will move the RV from the campground (KOA) tomorrow. We have a place to park it along side the house on the North side.
Canuck really enjoys his yard although he worries what we are doing and has to come in and make sure we are up to no mischief.
I’ll post this now.
