We went to...

..bed last night together for the first time in days.  We did not have to run the wet-dry shop vacs last night.  A sump pump has been installed and it has eliminated all the sub floor pressure leaks throughout the entire basement.  Wowser! ☺☺☺.

Now we can proceed with a damage control/repair program.

1700 hrs. & Still....

bailing.  We  now have 2 shop vacs and the carpet shampooer in use.  The rain has subsided and we may be able to stop this insanity.  If we can stay ahead of the ground water level until it lowers we can win this battle.  Joyce and Naomi, Brian's wife, and her daughter, spelled me while Brian and Pat drove to Williston (70 miles) to buy another shop vac so we could release the rug shampooer for wet areas in the carpet that are developing.  This is going to be a long night for Pat and me.

Pat is resting and I am eating a bowl of Pat's very good Vegetable Soup on duty in the basement.  Boy! this soup is really good, a rich beef broth with cabbage, potatoes, onions and carrots.  She does a good soup!

My hearing is really bad with the shop vacs running.  So I have a visual timer on my iTouch running to remind me to empty the vacs every 8 minutes.  One vac is 5 gallons and the new one is 6 gallons.  Pat has decided to go to bed (1740) and I'll wake her when I can no longer function, probably 2030 or 2100.

Hi, we're still...

bailing---ahh, please forgive me if I leave once and a while,  the wet-dry vacuums need to be emptied about every 6-7 minutes.  It is not a hard job just never ending.  Have to fight off depression, that is our worst enemy!  Pat spent a few hours last night helping her girl friend bail.  The friend is much worse off, lots more water.  Pat came home about 2 am and found our basement leaking also, DAMN!!!!, so I have been bailing ever since 5 when she woke me up.  She will go to Mass this AM and pray for us and so many others having flooding throughout the state and country.   Rain, rain go away,  California needs you.☺  Our farmers are unable to get their crops in because the fields are so wet and some flooded.  It is so easy to be overwhelmed by our own tribulations and forget that others are much worse off.  Please say a prayer for them and if you would mention us.

Our hopes for sale of our home a pretty much in shambles right now.  We are saddened by what this has done to us.  Darn! see how self pity can creep in!  THINK POSITIVE!

If someone came along and made us a decent "as is" offer we are almost all packed and ready to leave.  It would take very little to say good-by to this.

The rain has stopped!!!! The water is coming in faster now.  Emptying vacuums every 5-6 minutes now but should let up in another 6 hours or so barring more precipitation.  I just checked the radar on the 'net.  The worst of the rain is ended for the foreseeable future.  Now we can recover.

If it can go wrong

it will.
Pat and I were on our way to Indiana.  200 miles into the trip to search out and buy a home in Crawfordsville.  Our home in Crosby was sold, we had $50,000 and more coming when we returned from Indiana.  What is that saying about the works of mice and men?  The buyer WELCHED.    We are not sure what to do.  I guess we'll need to consult an attorney Monday.  We have a U-Haul trailer full of personal possessions that must be unloaded and we will probably loose the nearly $500 we paid for that.  We also had motel reservations in Indiana and suffered a days rent for canceling.

Pat is beside herself.  I am helpless to help her.  I'm damn upset too.  I keep my word and expect others to do the same.  We need to determine if we do have a sale contract and if we can hold the buyer to it.  So much for trying to do this without an attorney.  Lesson learned!!!!

We just accepted a cash deal on our home here in Crosby.  We have to be out by June 4th.  We got a very good deal and are pleased.  NO REALTOR. Now it is to pack.  More later.

The day after; (Sunday) and Monday;

We have survived!
We resorted to using melted snow to flush the toilets and washing dishes and simple bathing on Sunday.  Late Sunday (about 8 PM) Power and Water were restored.  We slept warm and had a  warm home when we awakened today.  A pleasure we sorely missed.
Snow is being cleared on the roads and life is returning to normal.  Today will be in the 50's and we are seeing significant warming.  Spring is returning to Crosby.  We are pleased!

April 30th blizzard

Yesterday was a wonderful spring day. Folks were in short shirt sleeves enjoying the warmth of spring. Some were even raking and mowing lawns.
Today is a dead winter day with blowing snow and subfreezing temperatures. Snow depths are from one to two feet depending where you are.  Drifts are 3' to 5' or more.  No let up until later tonight although the snow has let up some. The wind out of North is not letting up. We also have no power or running water & NO INTERNET. It seems the muni water tower is filled with an electric pump with out backup power!  The town is crippled, No water and No electricity.  We are lucky, we can move into the trailer for warmth and cooking meals if we need to.  So far all is survivable.
Pat and I are doing well, we have a well insulated home and a gas cooktop. We will take the food from the refrigerator and put it in the garage if we need to. The garage is about 38 degrees.
This is about 24 hours worth of snow in the pictures!
It is cold!
